The Histories

Author(s): Herodotus; E. H. B (Editor)

Classics

The Histories is a book by a Greek historian Herodotus from Halicarnassus (V century BC), the first fully preserved historical and prosaic work in the European literature. It is the most valuable source of the early history of Greece and the East. Detailed descriptions and accurate observations are put together with novellas and legends in his work. The contrasts between Persia and Greece, slavery and freedom, democracy and tyranny compose the main plot of the work by "the father of history", as Herodotus was named. The real breath of the era, exquisite and at the same time rather understandable language covered it with the glory of one of the most fascinating works in the world history.
