Woven Landscape: Connections in the Tasmanian Midlands

Author(s): Peter E Davies

Tasmaniana Bargains

In Woven Landscape, Peter Davies explores the concept of connection from within a very specific place - the Tasmanian Midlands around Ross - inspired by Greening Australia’s Midlands Restoration program. He explores the diversity of connection between elements of country, animals, plants and the indigenous Palawa people, then the changes following settlement and into the near future. “The connections I describe are both local and universal in nature. The Midlands is highly interconnected across space and time, from its geology and hydrology, to its ecology and its history. I hope people may look at it with different eyes.” This ‘concept picture-book’ combines words and original illustrations. While the idea and words are the author’s, the work was graphically and physically created by a team of four talented Tasmanian women - Lynn Davies, Gillian Ward, Deborah Williamson and Nikala Bourke - each contributing to a visual sense of connection through design, layout, and imagery.
